La Grange du Bost is an organic farm in the Dordogne region of southwest France. It covers 20 hectares and includes woods, meadows and fields. It has been an organic farm for 25 years and was until recently an organic egg farm. The focus is now on wildlife and ecology – we are aiming to rewild parts of the farm to make it even more of a haven for nature, and to create a permaculture food forest and plant trees to help tackle climate change.
Guests can be part of these projects if they are interested - everyone can help with planting and watering trees and seedlings, for example. There are also wildlife activities available – such as night walks to see bats and other nocturnal wildlife, bird watching and orchid walks, and scavenger hunts. You can also spend time with our animals – a dog – Ushi; three cats; a rabbit; several chickens; and a horse and donkey. Guests can help us look for eggs, feed the rabbit and give carrots and groom the horse and donkey. The donkey is gentle and happy to have children sit on his back though he doesn’t much like moving!
Fiona speaks both French and English, and lives on the farm with her daughter Katy (15) and son Patrick (19). She will be operating the tents in partnership with her friend, Chris Roberts.
OFFSET YOUR CARBON FROM TRAVELLING TO THE FARM
Planting billions of trees across the world is one of the most effective ways of taking CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis. Guests who want to offset the carbon dioxide emitted from their journey by car or plane can buy a young tree from us and even help plant it while they are here. We can label it with your name too.
The Cellier is our little shop located in our barn. Here you will find plenty of local products – including some from the farm – ranging from local organic wine and beer to ice cream, cheese, honey and vegetables. The shop is also well-stocked with the basics (pasta, rice, tea, coffee etc), so no need to go to the supermarket every day. The shop is always open and we operate an honesty system – take what you need and write it in a notebook and you can pay at the end of your stay.
The welcome, the atmosphere, the human warmth, the site very much pleased us as well as the availability of the owners.
