At La Grange du Bost children can roam free. There are endless possibilities for adventures in the woods, building dens and obstacle courses. We have swings and a play house as well as an old tractor to ‘drive’. We also have badminton equipment.
We have a donkey, horse and rabbit to meet and feed, and of course chickens, cats and dog to cuddle! Visit the wildlife-watching hide, join us on a night walk to see bats, owls and other nocturnal wildlife, or come on a bird and wildflower walk. Help us on the farm: there’s always something to be done and we always welcome helpers!
WALKING AND CYCLING
There are plenty of trails in the area. Fiona has prepared some self-guided walking sheets for walks starting from the farm - both long and short.
We have bikes available to rent - both adult and children’s, and there is a mountain bike centre in Montagrier, our village.
Pizza evenings, campfires and marshmallow toasting – these are regular occurrences at the farm during the summer and are very popular.
The area has hundreds of markets – there are several for every day of the week, though varying in size. The farm is in the heart of the Perigord region, renowned for its gastromony, specialising in duck, walnuts, truffles and foie gras. There is an abundance of excellent restaurants in the immediate area.
Swimming and picnicking at the river: We can show you the best places for enjoying the nearby river Dronne - from secret islands and rope swings to sandy beaches safe for the smallest children.
Canoeing and barge trips: canoes can be rented in Tocane, only 3 kms away, and there are many other canoeing possibilities all along the River Dronne.
Fishing: we can organise you a temporary permit for river fishing though we do not have fishing gear.
LIVE MUSIC AND NEARBY FARMS
This is a big area for live music in the summer. Friday evenings at Montagrier's gourmet musical market are a must – our nearest village – where you can sample local produce while listening to live bands. The Douchapt Blues Festival takes place every summer in a neighbouring village and attracts jazz and blues bands from around the world.
Nearby farms welcome you to visit their animals, some of which include ostriches and goats!
If you feel like leaving the farm for a few hours or a whole day there are countless places to explore – from pretty villages, to caves and chateaux, vineyards and even underground churches.
